2009/10 Challenge or Opportunity?
The calendar year 2009 looks to provide many sectors of the local and international economy with some significant challenges as they rapidly assess the impacts of the "Global Financial Crisis" and forthcoming recession.
We are seeing that this is providing our clients with an opportunity to get their houses in order by reviewing their organisations so that they focus on the most competitive business units or products to enable them to be truly competitive in the future as we emerge from the recession or crisis.
Over the past 4-5 years many of our clients were hamstrung by a shortage of skills, and the owners of the skills where able to charge a significant premium for them. This trend seems to have abated and provides an area of significant opportunity for businesses that are well positioned and focused, as the best skills will still gravitate towards the best businesses in the best industries.
A clear strategic plan is essential for business who are looking to go beyond survival over the next 2 years and move to an extremely strong and agile position within their industries.
eCompass clients exit businesses profitably
We have had the experience of helping our clients create significant value within their enterprises over the past 12 years. The past 2 years we have seen several of our long-term clients exit their businesses with significant capital returns as they have build and consolidated strong competitive positions in their industries.
In the majority of these cases we worked with business that initially were struggling from a financial and competitive perspective. During the period we worked with these clients we saw their mature businesses double, triple and even quadruple in size as they became more strategic in their approach to business. As we have seen the first wave of many of these businesses exit we are proud and pleased to see they have done so in a such a strong position at a time of their choosing.
New Client Selection Criteria
What we bring to a business are business development disciplines in the areas of strategic planning, executive coaching, change management, performance management and cultural change.
We are not industry experts - our clients are!
We help them become better business leaders by supporting them to develop and embed the business development disciplines within their businesses. As demand for our services grows, we have become conscious of creating win/win situations and have begun implementing the following two client selection criteria:
We have worked with clients employing 20, 50, 200, 500 and even 1,000 people (within international businesses employing 30,000+ people) - so size doesn't matter. All we require is that there is a "management team" in place that can support the implementation of the business strategies we embark on to leverage our services and provide a multiplier in the value of the services we impart, which enables us to be appropriately compensated.
We have worked with a variety of businesses including: financial services, information technology, media and print services, manufacturing, wholesaling, plant & equipment hire, building & construction services, franchising and professional services. Our strategic planning processes and business development disciplines have proved successful in all these environments. All we require is that there is a commitment to a business development process of at least six months with a financial commitment and commitment of management time to see the plans take full effect.
